Candidate FAQs

What is Carrot Fertility?
Carrot Fertility is the leading global fertility benefits provider for employers and health plans, built to make fertility care and family-forming accessible and affordable to everyone who wants or needs it regardless of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or geography. Why was Carrot created?
Carrot Co-founder and CEO Tammy Sun created Carrot after she spent tens of thousands of dollars of her personal savings to undergo egg freezing — something she was shocked to learn insurance wouldn't cover at all despite years of paying premiums. Through this experience, she was inspired to improve access to high-quality, inclusive fertility care while reducing the emotional and financial burden associated with it, which led her to start Carrot in 2016.
How did Carrot get its name?
First generation fertility products were largely cycle tracking related and feminized in their naming. Today, fertility care has grown in breadth and depth. We knew early on that fertility was a human healthcare issue — not just a women’s health issue. Carrot is easy to say, easy to recognize, and we’re continuing to build a brand around the name that invites all people to engage in healthy, lifelong fertility care. When your employer offers Carrot as a benefit, there are ways for you to engage regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.
How much funding has Carrot raised?
Carrot has raised more than $115 million to date. We most recently closed a $75 million Series C round led by Tiger Global Management in August 2021. To learn more, please visit our blog and read our funding story in Forbes
How many customers / members does Carrot have and where are they located?
Carrot has over 800 customers across almost every industry including technology, retail, professional sports, financial services, food and beverage, entertainment, and more. The type of employer is defined less by industry than it is by organizations wishing to contain healthcare costs or equalizing access to a diverse workforce. More than a third of our customers have employees accessing their benefits outside of the U.S. — we offer services in over 120 countries.
What are Carrot’s plans in the future?
Carrot has been growing rapidly. In 2020, we were ~70 employees, and we have grown to over 350 employees in 2022. In the future, we plan to re-invest our funding into growth both internally and externally. This includes expanding our global provider network to support members in additional languages and locations and offering new services to support lifelong fertility health.
What makes Carrot unique to its competitors?
We pride ourselves on taking a human-centered approach to fertility health and family forming all around the world. Carrot was founded with the belief that fertility is an integral part of healthcare for all people. We are proud to support all paths to parenthood including IVF, gestational carriers, and adoption, as well as lifelong fertility health such as egg and sperm freezing, fertility health and wellness, and more. And we offer extensive resources and personalized guidance to help people navigate each of those journeys.
Where is Carrot’s headquarters located?
Carrot is a fully distributed company. Previously headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, we made the shift to a fully distributed environment in April 2021 and currently have employees located in 35+ U.S. states. We offer many ways to stay connected with colleagues, whether that’s in person at team off-sites, at WeWork locations, or virtually through activities like wine tasting or trivia days.

What can I expect in the interview process?
At Carrot, each interview process may vary slightly based on the position that we are hiring for and the best way for us to assess that skillset. Each interview process will begin with a conversation with a recruiter from our Talent Acquisition team. They will go over the role at a high level, ask about your resume and experience, and ensure alignment on compensation expectations and overall role requirements and responsibilities. From there, each process may differ, so you can expect your recruiter to walk you through the interview plan for the role. Other steps may include a hiring manager interview, performance task, leadership and team interviews, and potentially a cross-functional interview. We recommend coming prepared with a few questions for the team during each step of the process.
How does Carrot help their employees grow/develop?
At Carrot, we believe learning should be a lifelong endeavor. As a result, our learning organization is structured around four unique pillars of learning — onboard, online, live, and leadership — to ensure every Carrot is provided with the educational tools and resources needed to help them become their best selves both in and out of work.

This begins during onboarding through CarrotUOnboard where every new hire will meet with leaders across all departments to learn about all the moving parts that make up Carrot.

Ongoing employee growth and development is also an integral way in which we support all employees. We do this through peer-led sessions focused on topics that encourage the development of Carrots (both personally and professionally), roleplay training exercises, virtual coaching, and more. Employees are able to engage in cross-functional trainings and have access to continued support throughout their careers at Carrot to ensure they are able to grow based on their professional goals. Additionally, CarrotUOnline features a myriad of online courses on both Carrot-specific topics and general ones such as communication, accountability, and giving feedback, plus many more.
