Employee spotlight: Britt Lamb

We sat down with Britt Lamb, Senior Manager, Internal Communications and Employee Experience, to learn more about her role and how she’s utilized the Carrot benefit throughout her pregnancy.

When did you join Carrot?

I joined Carrot in October 2021.

Why did you join Carrot?

I have always been extremely passionate about women’s health and fertility and because of that, Carrot was always on my radar. As I learned more about the company, and how the mission spans way beyond just supporting women in their family-building journeys, and instead supports family-building for all races, genders, and sexual orientations, I knew this was the place I wanted to work.

Describe your team and your role. What are you focused on?

In my role, I lead our internal communications function to ensure that our employees are informed and engaged when they come to work. I manage and write newsletters, company messages, plan and lead our town hall meetings, support our DEI and Employee Community Group initiatives, and more.

What is the best thing about your job?

There is something truly special about working with people who are all aligned with our mission. We are all passionate about fertility care and family building, and all bring pride and empathy to the work we do. I really feel like I have the best coworkers, and I know I have made some friends for life while working at Carrot.

Has there been one project or initiative that you’ve been most proud of working on?

I was the first internal communications hire at Carrot, so I had the opportunity to build our internal communications function, which is something that I am so proud of. When I first started, we were only communicating with about 200 employees, all in the United States. Now, we have over 400 team members globally. It’s been an incredible experience to build the internal comms function as we continue to grow as an organization.

What is your favorite perk about working at Carrot?

As an employee, I also have access to the Carrot benefit. This year has been extremely special for me because I became a Carrot member in my own pregnancy journey. I leaned on Carrot for many areas of support throughout my pregnancy, and I am so grateful that I had this benefit.

How would you describe Carrot’s culture?

Empathetic, supportive, and fulfilling.

You shared that you’ve been using Carrot throughout your pregnancy. How has it been beneficial to you?

Pregnancy can be such a stressful event in life, and the Carrot benefit brought me such a sense of relief. I had resources available to me all in one place as part of my benefits package.

I used my Carrot benefit to support me throughout my entire pregnancy. Here are a few examples of what I found most helpful.

  • Nutrition support: About halfway through my first trimester, I realized I would need to consult with a nutritionist due to my many food aversions and the weight I was losing from morning sickness. Within a few days, I was set up with a nutritionist at Carrot and had a plan for what nutritionally dense foods I could eat to help support me and my baby. I leveraged the advice given to me by the nutritionist throughout my entire pregnancy.
  • Feeding options: Given that this is my first pregnancy, I was on a mission to learn as much as I could about different feeding options. It can often be hard to find someone who does not have a bias on this topic, but in meeting with a lactation consultant through Carrot, I learned about all of my options and left feeling empowered to make the best decision for both me and my baby.
  • Doulas: In my third trimester, I started to consider the option of a doula. Originally, I had always thought that doulas were there to support through the birth process, but through my consultation with my Carrot Expert, I found that doulas can be used for so much more, including post-birth support, and is covered as part of my Carrot benefit.
  • Resources and learning: As first-time parents, my husband and I are trying to read as much as we can about everything and anything baby-related. Carrot provided us with an extensive library of content and resources that made this aspect of the process easy with content that was digestible and not overwhelming. Thanks to this library, we learned about feeding cues, postpartum care, what to expect within the first few weeks of bringing a baby home, how to create a birth plan, and so much more.

I was blown away by how helpful, professional, and supportive every person I interacted with through the benefit was. Given that this is my first pregnancy, at times, I felt like I had no idea what I was doing, but the team answered every question with patience and grace and never made me feel silly for asking.

Are you planning to use Carrot for postpartum and parenting support?

Absolutely! I’ve already talked to one of our Carrot Experts about a postpartum doula and bookmarked numerous library resources with tips for postpartum care, newborn care, and parenting support.

Having now been on the other side of the experience as a Carrot member, I feel even more proud to work for Carrot. In a very overwhelming time, my Carrot benefit brought me a lot of calm and peace, and I am so incredibly grateful.
